Women’s nutritional changes throughout the life because of menstruation, pregnancy, breastfeeding, hormonal changes, and menopause can all influence the body’s requirement for specific vitamins and minerals (micronutrients). While a balanced diet should remain the foundation of good nutrition, understanding key nutrients can help women make informed choices about food and supplements.

Women may have increased requirements for certain nutrients because of regular menstrual blood loss, reproductive health, pregnancy, and changes in bone metabolism with age.
